Alba Scharnhorst arbeitet als Performerin, Choreografin und Kulturmanagerin an der Schnittstelle zwischen Film, Objekttheater, Bildender Kunst und Tanz. Sie ist Co-Leiterin des Künstler*innen Netzwerks systemrhizoma, dessen Inszenierungen international gezeigt und preisgekrönt werden. Kürzlich erhielt sie die Stipendien des Fonds Darstellende Künste #takecare (Schaubude Berlin) und #takeheart (LOT Theater Braunschweig), sowie die DIS-TANZ-SOLO Förderung des Dachverband Tanz. Darüber hinaus ist sie künstlerische Co-Leitung des Internationalen Festivals mit Figuren „Weitblick“ in Braunschweig. Sie studierte Szenische Künste (B.A., Fächer: Theater, Bildende Kunst, Literatur) und Inszenierung der Künste und Medien (M.A.) an der Universität Hildesheim und erhielt bereits einen Lehrauftrag. Seit 2022 ist sie Jury-Mitgleid für den Bereich Tanz/Theater der Stadt Stuttgart.
Im Fokus ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit steht die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit Idealen von Weiblichkeit und den damit einhergehenden Körperentwürfen. Sie erarbeitet Inszenierungen, Installationen und Filme zu hybriden Körpern, die die Grenzen zwischen Mensch, Objekt, Maschine und Tier zum verschwimmen bringen und normative Vorstellungen kritisch hinterfragen.

Alba Scharnhorst is born 1992 in Braunschweig, Germany

She works as a choreographer, performanceartist and cultural manager in the fields of object theatre, fine arts and contemporary dance. She studied scenic production (B.A.; subjects: theatre, visual arts, literature) and medial and scenic production (M.A.; subjects: theatre, media art, cultural management) at the university of hildesheim with the key activity of artistic research in the artistic production of boundary expanding body images in object theatre.
She is also Co-founder of the interdisciplinary artist-network systemrhizoma (since 2015). She produced over ten solo and group productions, which were shown at international festivals. With systemrhizoma she produced the award winning production "No Strings Attached" for the best up-and-coming contemporary object theatre.
Since 2019 she is the artistic Co-director and manager of the international puppet and object theatre festival „Weitblick“ in Braunschweig. Since 2022 she is part of the jury for dance and theater productions for the city of Stuttgart.


She focuses on the production of non-normative and hybrid ideas of bodies and the constellations between human bodies, objects and animal bodies in the arts. Her research question asks how we can create creatures in the arts who are testing actual boundaries of the (artistic) imagination of human bodies. This includes the critical questioning of ideals of feminity in a feministic and constructive way.
